The new stem cells that have been transplanted travel from the blood of the patient to the bone marrow where they perform their required function and produce healthy working blood cells.
3. Multiple Sclerosis : Stem cell transplant can stop the advancement of many diseases and also has the ability to reverse the neurological dysfunction associated with multiple sclerosis. The patients are injected with stem cells obtained from their own bone marrow. These are known as haemopoietic stem cells. Blood cells originate from these stem cells. Up to 70% to 80% of the patients, suffering from multiple sclerosis did not relapse later.
4. Spinal Cord Injury: Stem cell transplant has provided life- saving benefits to spinal cord injury patients. The spinal cord cells once destroyed have no ability to regenerate.
